Rev Dr M A Ramsay (Founder)

Michael Augustus Ramsay 14th August 1931 –  7th January 2003.

How Church of God World Wide Mission International Began

Michael Ramsey was born in St Ann, Jamaica.  He was a volunteer Evangelist at City Mission Church, Blond Street, Kingston, before coming to the UK in 1962 to join his brother, the late Bishop Malachi Ramsay.

As a young but eager Christian, he soon became active in the church his brother attended, as he then lived in Croydon.

In Lime Grove, Shepherds Bush, W12 was a vibrant house church, led by Pastor Clifford Scott and his wife.  In 1964 this couple returned to Jamacia, leaving this group without leadership or a home. Many went in different directions, but a group of five decided to stay together, going from Church to Church to worship. Michale Ramsay and his 1st wife the late Rita Maud Ramsey, were sent to help this group, thus bringing the number to seven.

They travelled from Croydon to Shepherds Bush worshipping in various churches.  They did not always feel welcomed, some Ministers would pass insulting remarks and so many times would resort to having their services in the church van.  After a time, they found various halls they were able to rent and the congregation grew.

Pastor Ramsay during this time purchased a home a Vespen Road in Shepherds Bush and kept service in his dining and sitting rooms, but the increasing numbers could no longer be contained there, and soon they were on the move again, trusting God for his help.

The location at Faraday School Hall proved to be a great blessing, many souls were saved, youth meetings (Y.P.E) and a large Sunday School were also established.  In 1967 the Church was officially named “Church of God Worldwide Mission”.  There was a board of ministers and able brethren who could be left in charge, and so Rev Ramsey commenced his intensive and successful mission work, guided by the Holy Spirit in 1969. He was a tireless worker for the Lord.

They still did not have their own place of worship, but after seeking God in prayer and fasting, the mighty hand of God moved.  They obtained a Salvation Army building which had closed for lack of membership at 248 Dawes Road, Fulham, London, SW6, where they worshipped joyfully an unhindered, in the 70’s.  They were able to purchase this building after two years, followed by the purchase of the adjacent building for living accommodation, offices and a small bible shop.

Through the ministry of Rev Michael Ramsey, devoted Ministers and brethren, the Church of God World Wide Mission International can thank God for using him to raise up churches to the glory of God in various countries.
